 NORTHWAYS PLAYING FIELD

Clifford AFC has had its home in the village for over 15 years; the team had used the playing facilities of the old Northway’s school for its home games and the changing facilities of the village’s Cricket team, for a large proportion of that time.

Over the course of the last five years with the building of St Lukes housing development, there was a concern that the green space and playing facilities would disappear, but with the support of Leeds City Council the Parish Council managed to secure a 99 year lease on the area at the back of the housing development. Green space for use by the whole village and for every one to enjoy, whilst at the same time ensuring the future playing area for Clifford AFC

Over the last 12 months the playing area has been levelled and reseeded, it will continue its growth and be ready to play on in September 2008. At the same time the development of a woodland walk and nature area on the far side of the playing space has been cultivated. It is hoped that with the type of plants and trees planted that the area will thrive to create authentic woodland in which various wildlife will make their home. We hope that many of you have started and will continue to use and appreciate this area.

We feel that the woodland area provides the perfect backdrop for the sports area and coupled with the car parking facilities make it a great space from which to encourage all members of the village to participate in sporting activity.

Clifford AFC and the Parish Council are keen to encourage the use of sport within the village and to maximise the use of the playing area at Northways.

Once the grassed area has completed its re-growth we will return to play our home fixtures there and will then start to run a village junior team.

BUT we want to get other members of the village involved to maximise the use of the area with other sports, there has already been the suggestion of archery!

There are future development plans for the ground, and at present a planning application has been submitted to Leeds City Council to build a fully equipped changing block which will also incorporate a small community room. The facility could be used for small meetings or as a place to meet and greet before using the playing area.

We feel that this would add an additional benefit to the area and would enhance the possibilities for the use of the area by the whole of the village. Again if you can see yourself as a potential user of the field and/or the building and its community room or would like to assist us in the raising of the funds for the building please contact us syd@cliffordafc.com
